of them have plenty of nerves ahead of their debut. >> reporter: sugashima is a sleepy little island with a population of about 700. it's a quiet place where life moves at a slow pace. but sugashima has a long history and this attracts visitors. five years ago the island served a program for third-graders to train as tour guides. for the children it's quite a challenge to talk to people they have never met before. today, a professional guide has come to the island to show the children how to lead a tour. but most of the children are very shy. the children don't know what to say to visitors they're meeting for the first time. it's a worry. one of the third-graders is mi kodera. the night before her debut as a tour guide, she talks it over with her mother. >> translator: mii is very shy and doesn't know how to talk to strangers. finding out things about the island and trying to explain them to other people will help her in other aspects of her life. >> translator: tomorrow is the big day. >> reporter: a group of 40 people have arrived to visit the island. they've come from near and far

. the long awaited debut of new blackberry smartphones kind of a letdown on wall street. research in motion actually fell nearly 1% despite mostly positive reviews for the redesigned phones. they say it may reflect the frustration for the phone's release date. the first model goes on sale in march. the other one not until probably about april. and facebook says higher costs dragged down profits by nearly 80% last quarter but it said revenue got a boost from stronger ad sales on mobile devices. facebook's monthly average users grew by 25% from a year ago to a little more than one billion. >>> in the meantime the dow jones industrial average hit a speed bump on its way to 14,000. stocks fell after the government said the economy unexpectedly shrank in october by a tenth of a percent. checking the numbers for you, the dow stands at 13,910. dropped 44 points in trading yesterday. nasdaq was off by 11 and the s&p 500 lost almost six points. >>> last year more than 240,000 people used the port of baltimore to set sail on a cruise. in all 100 cruises left the port in 2012. cruise ships began makin

considering in just two days from now the boeing 787 made its debut flight from sjc. it will do so with a sold out fight. sold out means 158 passengers will board the dream liner at sjc bound for narita airport. in light of the problems the high tech dream liner has been working through. the aircraft debuted with all nipon airways in october of 2011. since then it's recorded five incidents that each made headlines. problems ranging from electrical concerns in december to just yesterday when one of the 787s began leaking fuel on the ground at boston's logan airport. an aviation expert on the "today" show. you will hear from him in a moment. first we got feedback from passengers who said they were concerned by the news. >> they should test it better before they get people on it. >> i don't want to be on it until they get it fixed. >> i have confidence in the airplane. there are going to be teething problems with a new airplane. it's common. the first commercial aircraft made of light weight carbon composite. 21% less fuel than planes of similar size. waiting to hear back to see if they are makin
